Greenland is an amazingly beautiful place - fjords, glaciers, mountains, and, where I was, when I was there, 24 hours of sunlight to take it all in. One of the things I was most surprised about were the flowers. Who would have thought there would be such a variety so far north?

I'm spending 3 weeks at Thule, a US Air Force Base in NW Greenland. My job here is to basically prep, assemble, and test our GPS sites before they go out into the field, where a field team consisting of my boss, a researcher from Ohio State, and a Danish geographer, will assemble them at various locations around the perimeter of Greenland (we're only doing the NW sites). The idea behind the project is to study the isostatic rebound of the bedrock as the icesheet melts, which means that they are measuring by how much the bedrock will rise at the ice melts (since the ice is weighing the rock down). So... I will be busy making sure everything works perfectly before it gets out in the field.
